“I only start counting when it hurts” – M. Ali. OK realtalk, does anyone actually do this? Should anyone?

I tried it during my workout today. My first impression is that it’s kind of hard to tell when it starts hurting, i.e. which specific rep, but if I’m off by one or two it’s not gonna matter in the long run. I’ll try it again, it’s a bit more difficult than just counting total, but I think it correlates more closely with the quality of the workout. What do you guys think?
