Can I focus on the 3 compound exercises only to gain strength?

I go for 4 mile jogs everyday and love cardio but still want to gain strength. Will I gain strength by doing 7 sets of 3 of bench press, squat and deadlift? I was thinking of something more on the line of like Monday Bench Press, Wednesday Squats, and Friday Deadlift. The reason why I can’t follow a full fledged program is because I’m pressed for time. I work 30 hours a week and am a full time student. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
